Space

The most disconcerting part about space and cyberspace policies is the arrogance with which the US asserts its control over these amorphous spaces. The idea of conquering the unknown is, of course, imperialist, but it's more than that. There is almost the presumption that no process of imperialism is necessary. There is a rather God-like quality to the US policy, as if what the US declares becomes true simply in the making of the statement. No treaties are needed, no litmus test or proof of jurisdiction or legitimacy. "Freedom of action"' applies only to the US, to shore up its own interests, to reaffirm its hegemony not only in the earthly world, but in the world beyond: cyber or solar. It's actually frightening to feel that I'm a part of a country with such self-righteous policies. And they question is: who can stop it? Who would try?
